Product Description
Basta, also known as Glufosinate Ammonium or Phosphinothricin (PPT), is a non-selective herbicide for the study of plant transformation. It uses the nucleotide sequence of the Phosphinothricin N-acetyltransferase or 'Bar gene' from Streptomyces viridochromogenes.
Basta is a phosphinic acid analogue of Glutamic acid that works by inhibiting glutamine synthesis and thus preventing nitrogen assimilation by the plant. It has even been observed to trigger pathogenesis genes and Hydrogen peroxide accumulation to keep plants healthy.
bioWORLD offers Glufosinate Ammonium in a >98% pure powder, or a convenient 1% sterile solution for use in plant tissue culture. For best results, it is recommended to use Basta at 5-15 µg/mL with a plant media such as Murashige and Skoog (MS) or Hoagland Medium.
bioWORLD's products are supplied for LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. The product may not be used as a drug, agricultural or pesticidal product, food additive or as a household chemical.
