Product Description
X-Gal is otherwise known as 5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl beta-D-Galactopyranoside. When hydrolysis occurs, X-Gal forms a blue pigment. This histochemical substrate for beta-Galactosidase is used in blue/white colony screening to identify bacteria positive for the lacZ gene. Staining with X-Gal has also proven to be effective in identifying grafted cells in tissue transplants.
Molecular Biology Grade X-Gal is soluble in DMF. X-Gal is often accompanied by IPTG for blue/white screening. Most protocols call for a final concentration of 1mM of both reagents.
bioWORLD's products are supplied for LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. The product may not be used as a drug, agricultural or pesticidal product, food additive or as a household chemical.
