Product Description
Glyphosate interferes with the synthesis of the aromatic amino acids phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan. It inhibits the enzyme 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS), which catalyzes the reaction of shikimate-3-phosphate (S3P) and phosphoenolpyruvate to form 5-enolpyruvyl-shikimate-3-phosphate (ESP).
Inhibiting the shikimate pathway during biosynthesis of these aromatic amino acids results in accumulation of shikimate and cell death.
This compound is formulated for screening og transgenic plants expressing the glyphosate resistant EPSP synthase gene. Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup™, also known as BASTA®.
